It's the part of a smart home nobody sees and everyone depends on. Your cameras, smart devices, streaming TVs, work-from-home video calls and the whole automation system all ride on the home network โ and that network is only as good as the cabling behind it. Weak Wi-Fi in half the house, buffering, dropped cameras: almost always a cabling and network-design problem, not an internet-speed problem. Here's how to get it right.
What "structured cabling" actually means
Structured cabling is a planned, organised network of cables (usually Cat6/Cat6a) running from a central cabinet to outlets and access points throughout the home โ instead of a messy tangle of ad-hoc wires. It's the backbone that carries internet, Wi-Fi, CCTV, IPTV and smart-home data cleanly and reliably.
Why proper cabling matters
Wi-Fi everywhere
Wired access points placed around the home give strong, seamless Wi-Fi in every room, garden and roof โ not just near the router.
Reliable cameras & devices
CCTV, intercom and smart devices on a wired backbone don't drop out the way congested Wi-Fi-only setups do.
Speed with no bottleneck
A properly sized network handles many devices at once โ streaming, calls, cameras โ without slowing down.
Future-proof
Good cabling lasts for years and supports whatever you add later, with no re-wiring.

The golden rule: plan it during construction
Like KNX automation, structured cabling is dramatically cheaper and cleaner when it's run during the finishing stage, before walls close. Retrofitting a network into a finished home is possible but harder. If you're building or finishing, design the network now.
Fast internet means nothing if the network inside your home can't carry it. The cabling is the real foundation.
Frequently asked questions
Will structured cabling fix my weak Wi-Fi?
Usually yes โ weak Wi-Fi in parts of a home is almost always about access-point placement and cabling, not internet speed. Wired access points fix it.
Can it be added to a finished home?
Yes, though it's cleaner during construction. We assess your home and find the best routing with minimal disruption.
